Abby Giving Back

What does a child do who has survived treatment for ALL? She decides to GIVE BACK. Abby was diagnosed with ALL on March 11, 2011 at the age of 8. She finished treatment in June of 2014. This year, for her 12th birthday, instead of gifts for herself, she decided to collect hats to give to children going through treatment for childhood cancer. Abby and her mom had hoped to collect 50 hats, but she will be delivering 342 hats tomorrow at her clinic appointment, which she has every 3 months! I know that Abby’s mom and dad are very proud of their brave girl. Abby never got a chance to meet her grandmother who passed away in 1997, from leukemia, but I am sure that she would be so proud of her helping others.

“Abby had a great time delivering all the hats yesterday at the clinic. 50 we sent to Egleston, we handed out about 30 yesterday, her oncology doctor took a box to hand out himself as did his nurses, and then the child life specialist took the rest to hand out at the hospital and later this week to patients at the clinic. What a GREAT day!”
