A large part of Ellie’s Hats mission is to help families who have a child battling cancer. Families often find themselves unable to make ends meet and need financial assistance for everyday living expenses. This year Ellie’s Hats is going to help some of these families.
The social workers at The Pediatric Specialists of Virginia Clinic will select five families each month to receive $1,000 from Ellie’s Hats. If your child is being treated at the PSV Clinic, and you are in need of financial assistance, please reach out to the social workers there.
We delivered the first set of checks yesterday and have already heard back from one family, “Me and my family just wanted to express how much we appreciate your support and we are so thankful for being there for us on this hard situation of our family.”
For information on how you can sponsor a family send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org.

Things to help grant a wish
When we hear from a parent that their child would like something special to help brighten their child’s day we do what we can to make it happen. Here are a few things we have been able to do.
Kenny is a 17-year-old young man who was diagnosed with pre-B acute lymphoblastic leukemia in October 2017. Kenny is very much a car guy so after Kenny was diagnosed his uncle gave him a 2010 Camaro SS hoping it would help Kenny as he went through his battle. When visiting Kenny at the hospital he told me that for his “Make a Wish” he would like to have some upgrades done to his Camaro. I decided to see if Ellie’s Hats could help make Kenny’s wish come true, so he could use his “Make a Wish” for something with his mom and dad. I reached out to Casey’s Automotive to see if they would be interested in helping. Casey’s was eager to get involved and the project was begun on the Camaro.
We had Kirk Cousins, of the Washington Redskins send Kenny a video to help cheer him up.
We arranged for a teenager to get a ride in his favorite car. A Lamborghini.
We arranged for a teenager to meet Steph Curry.
In the summer of 2017 we were able to get the owner of Aloha Driving School to donate behind the wheel lessons to a teenager who had just turned 16.
We helped get a small basketball court built for a young boy in a wheel chair battling cancer.
We coordinated “Family Dinner Nights” at Inova
