This November, Casey’s Automotive collected more than 70 cozy winter hats as part of an ongoing local hat drive supporting children undergoing cancer treatment. The effort, led in partnership with Ellie’s Hats, invites schools, businesses, HOAs, and community groups across Northern Virginia to participate and spread warmth and encouragement to young oncology patients.

Hat drives are currently underway across Loudoun and Fairfax counties. Community members are encouraged to join in, host a drive, or donate new hats. Organizations interested in helping can contact Ellie’s Hats directly to receive donation instructions and materials.

Where the Hats Go

These hats are more than winter accessories—they’re reminders that these kids are seen, supported, and not alone. This week, the donated hats will be delivered to Inova Children’s Hospital, along with holiday toys and care packages for families facing childhood cancer this season.

In addition to care packages, Ellie’s Hats provides financial support to help families cover everyday expenses while caring for a sick child. Last week, Jay Coakley (Ellie’s Hats) delivered $5,000 in financial aid to families receiving care at the Pediatric Specialists of Virginia Clinic at the Schar Cancer Center. Thanks to generous sponsors, Ellie’s Hats was able to double its monthly giving—offering checks to 10 families instead of the usual five.

This support helps with the real, immediate needs of these families: gas, groceries, household supplies, and medical-related expenses. Your donations truly make a difference, and because of this community, more families will have a brighter Christmas.
