You may not know Ellie’s Hats does more than send hats to children battling cancer. With the help of Casey’s Automotive we were able to give out 22 $200 checks to some of the families we have met. We know that having a child with a life threatening illness can be very costly so we hope the checks will help.
Saturday April 22nd I was on the Fox 5 DC Weekend show with Bryan and Mary Jewett to talk to Annie Yu about Ellie’s Hats and the event Casey’s Automotive was hosting for Ellie’s Hats. While were a little nervous about being on live TV Annie made us a lot more comfortable with her genuine interest in Ellie’s Hats. This is the 2nd time Fox 5 has done a story about Ellie’s Hats and the 3rd time we have been on Fox 5. Each time the people from Fox 5 showed a real interest in what Ellie’s Hats is all about.

Ellie’s Hats does more than send hats to children battling cancer. In 2016 we started two new programs at Inova Children’s Hospital. The “Hero Bag” program and monthly dinners for the patients and families in the hospital. With your support we plan to continue to look for ways to help support families who have a child battling cancer in 2017. Would you like to be a part of this? Send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org. #morethanjustahat Inova Children’s Hospital
We can’t think of anything better than a visit by the Washington Capital’s Slapshot to bring laughter and smiles to children suffering from cancer, other than some fun hats from Ellie’s Hats. That was the perfect mix on Monday when the two partnered together to bring a special holiday blessing at Pediatric Specialists of Virginia. Jay Coakley, president of Ellie’s Hats, invited Slapshot to join him to visit the clinic and entertain the children, their parents, and the wonderful giving staff. You know Slapshot–he HAD to be there!!
What’s next for Ellie’s Hats?
- They will be bringing dinner from Jimmy John’s to patients and families on the oncology unit at Inova Children’s Hospital on December 14.
- They will attend the Holiday Party at Medstar Georgetown University Hospital and donate $2,000 worth of Visa Gift Cards to the families on 15 December.
- They will be going to Medstar Georgetown University with the Capitals to visit the children and pass out more hats on 19 December.

We want to thank Crossfield Elementary School, in Herndon Virginia, for having a drive to collect hats, crayons, coloring books and Play-doh. They collected over 100 really cute hats which we will be sending out very soon. The children receiving them are going to really enjoy them. #fcps #kidshelpingkids #morethanjustahat #childhoodcancer
We were very grateful to have been a part of the Washington Capitals Hockey Fights Cancer Campaign again this year. As part of the campaign Leidos donated 400 awesome Capitals hats to us. These hats will bring joy to many children who are battling cancer. #nhl#capsfightcancer #hockeyfightscancer #morethanjustahat

We had our second event at Mustang Sally Brewery, in Chantilly, and again it was a great evening. Allstate Franchise owners Christine and Mike Angles helped with planning the event and also came out to pour some beer. Some of the local Allstate employees also came out to help.who came out to support Ellie’s Hats. It was a lot of fun. #morethanjustahat #allstate
Huge thanks to the UBS offices in Rockland and Boston for holding hat/toy drives and Volunteer Days for Ellie’s Hats! They collected over 230 incredible hats and countless crayons, Play Doh, crafts and and activity kits. They decorated shipping boxes and made touching cards for children battling cancer. These offices put so much care into this project and we at Ellie’s Hats are so thankful.
Thanks to DMVStream.com for having me in to talk about Ellie’s Hats and our efforts to raise awareness of childhood cancer.
