We want to again THANK YOU all those that took part in making this such a great event. We are speaking with local children’s hospitals to see how we can use the funds raised to have the greatest impact for children, and their families, affected by cancer! I want to thank Robin Dam Viar for all she has done and continues to do for Ellie’s Hats, especially, in North Carolina. #morethanjustahat

Our first Pancake Breakfast on March 5th, 2016 and it was a big success. Parents told us how much they enjoyed going to an event where children could join them. There are many people that helped to make this event so successful from volunteers to the businesses that donated items for our raffle. The raffle items that we had were all donated by local businesses and the Washington Capitals. This is a video of some of the pictures from the breakfast.
The Matthews Athletic & Recreation Association (MARA) recently hosted the inaugural Ellie’s Hats Charitable Softball Tournament to raise funds for Ellie’s Hats, a nonprofit that collects hats of all sizes, shapes, colors and designs for children fighting cance
Waxhaw Resident Robin Viar organized the tournament. Viar is a stage 4 colon cancer survivor who worked with her two teenage children, Katy and Reid, to host a hat drive last year in honor of Ellie’s Hats. Six traveling softball teams participated in six softball games, held throughout the afternoon. Players also participated in a Home Run Derby, in which they tried to hit as many home runs as they could in 10 pitches. Players collected pledges to support Ellie’s Hats, with player Piper Edwards from the Omni Elite Burn team, who raised $960.
Business vendors included Juniors Scoop Italian Ice, Sisters Crochet NC and MARA’s concession stand, and all donated a portion of their proceeds to Ellie’s Hats. The event also included T-shirt sales, a photo booth, 50/50 raffle and more.
The tournament raised more than $3,000, Viar said in the release.
Ella decided to raise money with a good old fashion lemonade stand. Ella’s family recently moved to North Carolina and after seeing what Sydney had done for Ellie’s Hats with her hat drive across America Ella thought that having a lemonade stand would help raise money for Ellie’s Hats and also help her meet some new neighbors. Ella raised a total of $140 for Ellie’s Hats from all her hard work today! Way to go Ella!

The students in the Leo Club at Lunsford Middle School in South Riding Va held a fundraiser for Ellie’s Hats. They sold blow pops and raised over $200. With the money that they raised they went shopping and purchased 40 hats that were donated to Ellie’s Hats on May 9th.
Alina decided to ask her friends to donate money towards Ellie’s Hats instead of gifts. This wasn’t the first time that she had asked her friends to donate to a charity instead of gifts. She raised enough money to be able to go to the mall and pick out some hats that kids will love getting. Alina is added to our list of Young All Stars.
